The Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations has launched a national consultation with its members to determine a new three-year strategy for the organisation.
The consultation will take place at ten meetings across the country over the next seven weeks and will set out a vision for “a world of inspiring charity and social enterprise leadership, locally, nationally and internationally”, according to Acevo.
Four principles are being pledged “for the organisation’s evolution” including “national and local action”, “robust and innovative work”, “democracy and accountability” and “collaboration”.
The strategy will build on six aspects of the association’s work, including "local forums", a "strong campaigning voice", "development opportunities", "new technologies", "transparency" and "building the next generation of social leaders" through new personal development programmes.
Commenting on the launch of the strategy, Sir Stephen Bubb, chief executive of Acevo said:
“Acevo was founded in 1987 because social leaders didn’t feel they had a collective voice, or anyone who represented them. Today the need for a bold, independent voice of charity and social enterprise leaders is as great as ever. We’re travelling around the country so our members can tell us how they’d like their association to represent them in future.
“We promise that we’ll continue to evolve to meet the needs of the new political and financial ecosystem. We promise that we’ll retain our independent voice and never collaborate with government or capitulate on regressive policies like the Lobbying Act. Our members will have even greater say in the formulation and implementation of our work in future.”
Meetings will take place in June and July in Newcastle, Leeds, Birmingham, Edinburgh, London, Southampton, Exeter, Manchester, Norwich and Cardiff.
