Charity Investment Conference 2012
15 Oct 2012
Richard Marsh is a consultant whose first foray into the charitable sector began with the Church. He spent several years with the Church of England and at one point headed the World Faith Development Dialogue.
He moved into more generic voluntary sector affairs in 2007 when he became the first director of the Impact Coalition, an initiative designed to improve public trust in the sector by promoting transparency among charities.
In July 2009 Marsh joined Intelligent Giving as interim director with a brief to try to develop a sustainable funding model for the organisation or find a partner which would take it on. Two months later it was announced that IG would be subsumed by New Philanthropy Capital, and Marsh returned to freelance consultancy.
Having obtained his first degree in theology and later a PhD in English literature, Marsh writes books on world religion. He is the (contributed) author of Millennium Challenges for Development & Faith Based Institutions.

Intelligent Giving has finally succumbed to the impossibility of finding sustainable funding and is being taken over by New Philanthropy Capital.
The Impact Coalition has moved out of the Institute of Fundraising into Acevo. What has it achieved in its first four years and how will it be different in its new home? Tania Mason reports.
Charities should congratulate themselves on their contribution to the labour market. The sector that spawned the professional fundraiser could be ready to give birth to another new career: the impact analyst.
Fundraisers should give themselves a pat on the back, as they are becoming ever more efficient at raising money.
