Gerald Oppenheim

Gerald Oppenheim

Until autumn 2010, Gerald Oppenheim was the director of policy and partnerships at the Big Lottery Fund.

Oppenheim has been with the Big Lottery Fund (BIG) since its formation.  He first joined the National Lottery Charities Board and its successor the Community Fund in 1995. Later, after a merger between the Community Fund and the New Opportunities Fund created BIG, Oppenheim became director of corporate planning, and in 2002 was promoted to the policy and partnership post.

Oppenheim's grantmaking career began in 1978 when he moved sideways into a grants officer role at the Greater London Council housing department. In 1985 he became director of the London Boroughs Grants Unit, a post he held for ten years.

In 2010 he stepped down from BIG in a restructure which saw his post subsumed within the remit of the director for England. He became a consultant and continues with his chairmanship of learning disability charity the Camden Society.
