Jane Ryder is to leave OSCR in September having led the Scottish regulator for eight years.
Ryder was appointed at the time of the creation of the regulator as an executive agency in 2003.
Jane Ryder said: “It has always been my plan to leave at this point, with OSCR firmly established and operational as an effective regulator, and I am ready for new challenges.
“For OSCR too this is the right time for the introduction of a new chief executive with new thinking and insights, and who will be fortunate to lead such an exceptional staff and step into such an interesting and worthwhile role.”
OSCR's chair, the Very Revd Dr Graham Forbes, said: “Jane has made OSCR a 21st century regulator which is fit for purpose and gained the respect and confidence of charities which give so much to Scotland.”
The recruitment process for Ryder’s successor is now underway.
