ImpACT Coalition members will be asked to approve a draft manifesto on transparency next week ahead of the formalisation of the document later in the summer.
All members will be asked to sign up to the finalised transparency manifesto at the end of July, once the drafting process is complete. At the members' meeting next Monday, organisations will be able to have their say on what the final document will look like.
Liam Cranley, head of ImpACT, told Civil Society that rather than involving penalties for breaches or failure to meet manifesto principles, the manifesto will act more as a “model document”.
“Some charities will meet the principles right away, and for some it will be more aspirational,” he said.
The nine-principle manifesto, he said “is more a statement of what an organisation should look like”.
The manifesto which will be taken to members was drawn up by Cranley and subsequently went through drafting by the coalition’s 20-member steering group. Cranley said the only challenge in drafting the manifesto was ensuring it was broad enough to cover the range of charities it needs to cover.
The ImpACt Coalition comprises over 300 charities, trade bodies, and umbrella organisations, all of which have expressed an interest in making the sector more transparent and accountable. The secretariat for the Coalition moved out of the Institute of Fundraising and into Acevo last year.
