Secret Millionaire joins Combat Stress appeal board

Tony Banks, the chairman of Balhousie Care Group who became acquainted with the work of Combat Stress when he appeared on the Secret Millionaire TV show, has joined the board of the charity’s ‘Enemy Within’ appeal which aims to raise £30m.

Banks, who served with 2 Para in the Falklands, began supporting Combat Stress after filming for the Channel 4 documentary programme in Anfield, Liverpool, last year. While undercover he met 29-year-old Iraq war veteran Lee Sanger, who has suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder and was a big supporter of the charity.

Banks remained in touch with Sanger after the programme and learned more about the charity’s work. Now, he said, Combat Stress has become his “number one priority”. Earlier this year he returned to the Falklands and raised funds for the charity by retracing the route of the Paratroopers famous ‘tab’ from Port Stanley.

The £30m that the Enemy Within appeal hopes to raise will be used to provide a national network of community teams who can provide personal support throughout the country.
