Acevo is no stranger to publicity, but is its latest choice of intern designed to gain a wider audience for the chief executives’ body?
Chief executive Stephen Bubb revealed last week that Acevo's European arm Euclid has welcomed on board David Wickenden (pictured back row centre), better known as one of Jonathan Ross’s house band ‘4 Poofs and a Piano’.
The move makes sense. Ross’ impending departure from the BBC means the Poofs may get to keep their piano but they will be losing their national platform, making this an ideal time for a career change.
Furthermore, Wickenden’s association with Ross could make him ideally placed to advise on how to deal with press criticism of perceived high salaries.
Writing in his blog, Bubb outlines Wickenden’s suitability for the role: “He studied dance in Paris and his training also incorporated singing and acting.
“His most prestigious work included a year at the famous Moulin Rouge in Paris followed by a further three years in exclusive Spanish and Portuguese casinos.”
He adds: “A great addition to the staff, though there is little room for dancing in the teeming Acevo office and certainly no piano!”
