Acevo has launched a Commission on Public Health, which will be chaired by Addaction CEO Simon Antrobus, to identify how the sector can maximise its contribution in this regard.
The Commission will review proposals such as the Conservative Party’s recently published green paper on public health, which called for payment by results, ring-fenced public health funding and turning the Department of Health into a Department of Public Health, plus the government’s Marmot Review on mapping and tackling health inequalities.
The Commission's draft terms of reference are stated as “to explore the third sector’s potential role in public health in this country, and the steps that need to be taken to realise that potential”.
The Commission aims to report in May or June 2010, and will be comprised of the following members:
The Commission will also include official observers from the Department of Health to offer their expertise on existing operating frameworks and the technicalities around proposed reforms.
