HIV charity Crusaid appoints new chief executive

Crusaid, a charity working for people living in poverty as a result of HIV and AIDs, has appointed Jordan Hay as its new chief executive.

Hay (pictured), whose appointment comes after a four-month period as acting chief executive, will oversee a complete restructure of the charity to ensure that it is learner and stronger than ever before.

Regarding the appointment, Rob Kemp, chair of Crusaid’s board of trustees, said: “The HIV pandemic doesn't stand still: there are now more people living with the virus than ever before, coming from diverse backgrounds and needing different kinds of support.

“We can't stand still either, which is why we needed someone to refocus and energise the charity. In his time as acting chief executive, Hay has shown us that he has the skills and the drive to renew Crusaid, and we're already seeing the benefits of his work.”

As a result, Hay has already come up with a three-point action plan for the charity, including increasing the amount of income through focusing on under-exploited revenue streams and reducing spending on administrative activities through relying less on outsourcing.

“Poverty charities have to innovate during a recession,” says Hay. “Just at the time when people have the least money to give, our beneficiaries need us most, so we need to respond. The changes we're making within Crusaid will help to ensure the ongoing success of the charity for many years to come.”

Hay comes to the role after working as head of fundraising, marketing and communications at Crusaid. Prior to this, Hay held roles in numerous other high-profile charities including Cancer Research UK and the Prostate Cancer Charity.
