Resource Alliance appoints new chief

Fundraising | Celina Ribeiro | 21 Oct 2009

Hans Wolters has been named as the new chief executive for the Resource Alliance.

The incoming chief takes over from Lyndall Stein who has held the post of interim chief executive for eight months following the resignation of Simon Collings earlier this year.

His appointment was announced on Tuesday night at the International Fundraising Congress in the Netherlands, which is organised by the Resource Alliance.  Both Stein and Tim Hunter, who chairs the IFC Advisory Board,  characterised recent history at the Resource Alliance as a difficult period as the organisation sought a replacement for Collings.

In a statement Wolters said he will immediately start work on developing “strategies for continued growth and securing sustainable funding”.

Most recently Wolters held the positions of director and chief operating officer for the European Council for Foreign Relations, of which he was a founding member. Previously he worked for international environmental NGOs Greenpeace and WWF.

“I will be looking at new forms of entrepreneurship and intense network development across the organisation, while at the core I hope to offer creative leadership with a focus on performance and service excellence within an enjoyable work environment," said Wolters, who will take up the new position on 2 November 2009.

In addition to the appointment of Wolters, the Resource Alliance announced a number of new board members, including Tim Hunter. American consultant Jennie Thompson and Merlin’s director of finance Vicky Annis also took up board positions.

Collings went to be chief operations officer at the Global Village Energy Partnership (GVEP) International, a UK-based charity that seeks to reduce poverty through access to modern energy services.
