This week we look at some of the charities who got involved with Bake Off, there were a lot of cake puns but fortunately no soggy bottoms.
Countless charities have jumped on the Great British Bake Off bandwagon this week as the much-anticipated show makes it return. This week’s episode was full of cracking Madeiras, crystalising walnut cakes and its usual dose of sexual innuendo. However Dorret’s collapsing gateau (pictured) was what really tugged at the heart strings of the nation.
Macmillan was one of the first to draw attention to its coffee morning event. And the Royal Marsden Charity used the hashtag to encourage people to sign-up to its baking challenge in September.
While Breast Cancer Now, Great Ormond Street Hospital and Leonard Cheshire Disability all encouraged supporters to take part in bake sells to raise money for their causes by tweeting along to the #GBBO hashtag.
St John Ambulance brought the attention back to its cause by promoting its kitchen first aid advice on Twitter – telling viewers that “if you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen”.
Why we love it: To be honest, how can you not love the Bake Off, or cake for that matter. So it is great to see so many charities getting involved with such a popular event, and hopefully gaining some supporters as a result.
