Alan Rickman in ‘This Tortoise Could Save a Life’

Alan Rickman, who passed away this week at the age of 69, voiced a film to raise money for refugees in what is being described as his last job.

The actor, who is famous for his many roles in film and theatre including Severus Snape in the Harry Potter films and as Hans Gruber in Die Hard, recorded the voiceover for the film in November last year. The video features a tortoise eating a strawberry, while Rickman’s highly recognisable voice explains how the video raises money.

The 30-second film, titled ‘This Tortoise Could Save a Life’, raises money for Save the Children and the Refugee Council. The more views it gets, the more advertising revenue YouTube provides to the charities.

OneClickGiving, the organisation that created the video, was founded by students at Oxford University, and the organisation is part of Oxford RAG.

It said: “For every view that a video gets, YouTube gives a cut of the advertising revenue to the uploader. We are going to give all the money we receive from our video to charities that help refugees.”

Posting on its Twitter page yesterday, OneClickGiving said: “We are very sad to hear of the passing of #AlanRickman. He kindly gave us his time and his help when he didn't have to. We are very grateful.”

At time of publication the video had 360,000 views.

Guide Dogs UK #BrentsBark

Guide Dogs staffer and puppy walker Lynda Graham took golden retriever guide dog puppy Zebedee to the set of Ricky Gervais’ new film, which resulted in the puppy becoming an instant social media hit.

Gervais' new film ‘Life on the Road’, due for release later this year, features a Guide Dogs collection box which prompted the invitation to the Guide Dogs team to visit.

After Zebedee had met everyone he posed for pictures, which Gervais later posted on his Facebook and Twitter pages using #BrentsBark.  He declared the event his “favourite set visit ever”.

The post has been liked and shared more than 1,000 times and the film’s crew got involved by posting pictures of a cuddly guide dog in different settings.
