Making the most of a moment

I have been known to say out loud that I think charities don't always capitalise on current affairs as well as they might, so today I would like to hail the British Heart Foundation.

I have been known to say out loud that I think charities don’t always capitalise on current affairs as well as they might, so today I would like to hail the British Heart Foundation.

Following the news of Michael Jackson’s death – which prompted a web and Twitter meltdown - the BHF have acted quickly putting a button on their home page explaining cardiac arrest with a picture of the late singer.

I’m not sure it will raise any funds, but I really hope it will raise awareness and aid understanding.

I also hope that when funeral details are released, the general public is encouraged to donate to charity in Jackson’s name instead of buying flowers for a shrine, and those who had tickets for his shows are asked if they would like their ticket money to go to charity as well.

Well done BHF for leading the way. I hope others will follow.
