As Charity News Alert went out today, the results of last week’s Quick Poll – “Who is the leader of the voluntary sector?” showed NCVO chief executive Stuart Etherington with a clear lead over his acevo counterpart Stephen Bubb.
The result appears to give credence to a fresh description from the NCVO this week of Etherington as “sector boss”. This is arguably even more unequivocal than last week’s press release assertion that he is “the leading sector leader”.
From our point of view, the poll has had exactly the desired effect – it’s got our readers chuckling and gossiping and casting their votes with relish. People with personalities as big as Stuart’s and Stephen’s, in positions as important as theirs, are always going to be targets for a bit of fun.
Which is exactly what the poll was – a bit of fun. So we’d like to remind Mr Etherington, before he gets too big for his boots, that a sector as diverse and colourful as ours has lots of leaders, all leading their members marvellously, we hope. Long may the fun continue!
