If you’ve not heard of Stephen Sutton then you must have been living under a rock; so far the 19-year old has raised a staggering £3.2m for Teenage Cancer Trust.
He made this film with the support of the Make a Wish Foundation after deciding that he wanted his wish to be to “spread my story and positivity with as many people as possible”.
By sharing his experiences on a blog and on Facebook and Twitter Stephen has become an inspiration to many for his relentlessly positive attitude, while facing terminal cancer.
The video was due to be released on 29 April to coincide with World Wish Day. But the release was brought forward after Stephen posted a thumbs up farewell photo that went viral, inspiring more than £1m in donations in 48 hours. He has since improved and started updated Facebook again, but his cancer remains terminal.
In bringing together interviews with Stephen’s family, friends and school teachers, with footage of him speaking at events, ticking things off of his bucket list, fundraising and even playing football, he proves it is possible not to be defined by illness.
It’s clear from the film just how many people he’s touched and more than one member of the Civil Society News team watched it with a lump in their throat.
