PDSA is looking for podgy pets to take part in a six-month diet and exercise plan, and the film featuring last year’s winner demonstrates the impact losing weight can have on an animal's quality of life.
It is shot in the style of a silent movie to tell the audience what Ruby is thinking and uses footage of Ruby, a Jack Russell terrier from Sunderland, before and after she shed one-third of her body weight.
Angela, Ruby’s owner said: "It got to the stage where she couldn’t jump on the sofa or the bed, the only thing she would move for was food. But now she’s like a puppy again and loves to run on the beach.”
It is the ninth year that PDSA has run the pet slimming competition and is looking for up to 30 overweight dogs, cats and rabbits to take part in the programme.
