Islamic Relief has produced a cinematic and hard-hitting film on the crisis in Syria, declaring “war on hunger” and appealing for donations.
The international aid organisation takes more than half of the four-and-a-half minute film depicting in cinematic style the individual stories of individuals affected by the civil war in Syria. This focus on individual children, women and men sits alongside more sweeping imagery of destruction and discussion of the general issues at play in the now long-running conflict.
Both slow-moving, high-quality film is used as well as camera phone footage taken from those on the ground, giving an added sense of urgency and danger. Individuals are given a voice too, describing their own experiences.
Islamic Relief then moves in to more positive territory, discussing its impact so far working on the ground. With urgency, the narrator says “We will not stop”.
The charity issues a call for donations to enable it to continue giving dignity back to the displaced victims.
It is a distressing and empowering film, and one which is particularly timely given the holy season of Ramadan and the renewed focus on the scale of the crisis in Syria. Non-Muslim civilsociety.co.uk journalists were moved to donate after this film.
Every Friday civilsociety.co.uk features an innovative or effective use of film by a charity. If you would like to draw our attention to your charity's film, or even someone else's please email [email protected].
