The Dogs Trust is reminding people of the dangers of leaving dogs in parked cars during hot weather with a time-lapse video to show what can happen.

The video is part of its #hotcarskilldogs campaign and the video shows an ice sculpture dog melting in a parked car.

The film ends with the ice sculpture completely melting so all that remains of the dog is his collar on the seat and the warning that “Dogs die in hot cars. It can take as little as 20 minutes.”

The charity states that you may as well leave your dog in an oven.

Clarissa Baldwin, chief executive at Dogs Trust, said: "Every year we hear the inevitable and highly distressing media reports that another dog has been subjected to the horrific ordeal of being left to die in a hot car.

"The saddest thing is that these dogs are often much-loved family pets but the owners simply do not appreciate how quickly a dog can die in a hot car where temperatures can reach the same as an oven.”

Dogs Trust has also produced a “behind the scenes” version to show how the film was made.
