Javed Khan

Chief executive

Javed Khan joined Barnardo's as chief executive in the spring of 2014.

As a British Pakistani, he is the first non-white CEO in Barnardo’s 150-year history.

Before that he was CEO of Victim Support for nearly four years.

Prior to this role he worked at the Government Office for London where he was the executive director to the London Serious Youth Violence Board, a senior civil service role.

 

In December 2003 Khan joined London’s Harrow Council, as director of education. In 2007 he took on the role of Harrow’s director of community and cultural services.

He was previously assistant director of education in Birmingham, and prior to that he spent 27 years as a maths teacher. 

Wearing other hats Khan is a non-judicial board member of the Sentencing Council for England and Wales, a member of the Advisory Board for the Children’s Commissioner, a lay member on a London Clinical Commissioning Group and a Commissioner on the Voluntary Sector and Ageing Commission.
