Alan Gosschalk

Fundraising director

Alan Gosschalk is fundraising director at Scope following a two-month stint as interim fundraising director.

He took over for a brief spell as acting chair at the Institute of Fundraising in 2010/2011.

A career fundraiser, Alan is best known for his nine-year stint leading the fundraising team at Shelter, during which time he more than doubled the charity’s voluntary income.

His fundraising career started in a marketing role at Help the Aged, before he moved to the Imperial Cancer Research Fund as head of marketing and then on to the RNID as fundraising director.

His departure from Shelter came about after the charity decided to subsume the role of director of fundraising within the new enlarged function of shops, training and enterprise.  Gosschalk opted not to apply for the job as he wanted to continue to focus on fundraising. In June 2009 he became interim director of fundraising and communication at African medical charity AMREF, succeeding Paul Marvell who left to become director of learning at the Institute of Fundraising.

Six months later he joined consultancy BlueFrog as client services director but left nine months later in September 2010 stating that he wanted to take some time off and then find work within a charity again.

Gosschalk is also chair of the ImpACT Coalition, which he launched in 2005. He stepped up from vice chair to chair of the Institute of Fundraising in late 2010 after Paul Amadi resigned from the role. He is also a trustee of the overseas charity, Hope & Homes for Children.
