Online charity YouthNet has announced the partnership that has won the bid to take control of its volunteering service, Do-it.

YouthNet, which launched Do-it in 2001, made the decision to look for a new owner for the service in March this year as Do-it caters to a wide age-range and the charity wished to concentrate its efforts on TheSite, its online guide to life for 16 to 25-year-olds.

A tendering process commenced in conjunction with the Office for Civil Society, and now it has been confirmed that a partnership of five organisations with backgrounds and experience in the charity and educational sectors will be running the service.

The partnership is led by Red Trust, a charity that promotes the use digital technologies to support and enable volunteering and social action, and which is behind the volunteering social networking site ivo.org.

The organisations in the new partnership are: the team from ivo.org, Believe. In, Blue Dot, Prospectus and Vivo. The partnership is further supported by others including Tinder Foundation and its network of UK Online centres.

Do-it will be passed to the new owner along with its software services and database of volunteers by December 2013.

The Office for Civil Society has outlined its commitment to supporting the transition of Do-it, with minister for civil society Nick Hurd confirming that funding will be available to support the transition of the service to a new owner and a sustainable financial footing.
