The Tubney Charitable Trust has awarded its biggest ever grant of £2.8m to the Wildlife Trusts.
The record sum will be spent on the charity's 50-year vision for 'A Living Landscape'.
The Wildlife Trusts will receive the funding over five years. It has previously received grants from the Tubney Trust towards nearly 20 per cent of its 112 Living Landscape schemes.
Focus on sustainable projects
The Tubney Trust was set up in 1997 with a limited lifespan and is dedicated to supporting charities with a long-term, sustainable and positive impact on the biodiversity of the UK.
In 2008 it decided to allocate approximately £26m to a small number of large focused trusts.
Sarah Ridley, executive director of the Tubney Trust, said the Trust wants to continue giving core support to key organisations that are carrying out projects to drive change. She said: “We believe the Wildlife Trusts is one of these organisations. This is a way of showing we have faith in them.”
The Tubney Trust have recently given grants totalling £10m to a number of organisations including Compassion in World Farming, the University of Bristol, the Farm Animal Welfare Trust and the RSPCA.
Family foundations significantly increased their grants in 2008/9, giving away £1.4bn in grants.
