A Welsh representative has been appointed to join the six new Charity Commission board members announced earlier this month.

Lawyer Eryl Besse will join the board on 3 June, creating a board of eight, including William Shawcross as chair.

Besse has over 30 years of experience in three international law firms having been a partner at both Linklaters and Debevoise & Plimpton and also having worked at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

The Welsh-speaking representative will join the regulator on the same day as Gwythian Prins, whose appointment was made public on 3 May alongside that of Peter Clarke, Claire Dove, Orlando Fraser, Tony Leifer and Nazo Moosa. Trustees will join the board in a staggered timeline with Dove joining last on 1 July.

The new board has already come under fire from senior members of the charity sector, who criticised a lack of charity sector representation.
