The Wales Council for Voluntary Action has announced a reshuffle of its governance structure, which could involve removing up to 24 trustees.

WCVA is the Welsh national umbrella body providing support for volunteers and organisations in the third sector, with over 3,000 organisational members.

The board currently has up to 36 trustees, but the charity has proposed a reduction to 12 trustees elected by members, which can be supplemented by up to 4 appointed positions.

Peter Davies, chair of WCVA, said the decision was a positive step forward in the effectiveness and transparency of the organisation.

“Accountability and transparency are vital to the sector and this is an opportunity to provide clarity to WCVA's management and governance structures as well as to the essential roles of representation, influence and engagement in our work,” he said.

Discussion of the structure review and proposals for the trustee board will begin on 10th August, when the WCVA will hold general meetings in Cardiff, Aberystwyth and Rhyl.
