Urban Forum, an umbrella body for community groups, is to make all its four staff redundant as the charity plans to restructure into a ‘more streamlined and mobile’ organisation.

On a statement on its website this week, joint chairs Sally Polanski and Sal Hampson say the charity will be re-launching in April after consulting on its future with its 800 members.

Part of the re-launch includes the loss of its four paid staff: Alistair Brown, operations manager; and development managers Nick Bird, Kate Hathway, and Tony Hillman.

Urban Forum’s most recent accounts on the Charity Commission website indicate that its staff costs for the year ending 31 March 2012 were £261,904. While its income for the same period was £319,913 – a 26 per cent drop on the previous year.

Urban Forum was a former strategic partner of the Office for Civil Society, but lost its funding of around £100,000 a year when the department decided to phase out the strategic partner programme.

Urban Forum’s four staff members will leave the organisation at the end of March.
