Trustees’ Week to focus on good leadership

Trustees’ Week, the annual week to encourage volunteering and growth as a trustee, will be held between 7 and 13 November and will focus on building skills to make trustees effective leaders.

Trustees’ Week is operated by a coalition of organisations including Governance and Leadership magazine, a Civil Society Media publication, which will be distributed at Trustees’ Week events.

Organisations interested in taking part in Trustees’ Week can list trustee-matching, training and celebration events on the Trustees’ Week website.

This year’s focus is on improving skills in the trustee body.

Sir Stuart Etherington, chief executive of NCVO, one of the bodies leading Trustees’ Week, said that good governance depended on trustee skills.

"Good governance is underpinned by good trustees,” he said.

“Board members who are engaged in their roles and keen to develop their skills and knowledge are central to the effectiveness of voluntary sector organisations. They play a vital role in helping charities make a bigger difference. I am very much looking forward to Trustees’ Week as an opportunity to celebrate the great work of trustees."

Paula Sussex, chief executive of the Charity Commission, paid tribute to the hard work of volunteer trustees.

“The last year has shown the challenges of trusteeship,” she said. “It can be hard, but it’s worth it. Charities and trustees achieve so much that is valuable and worth celebrating. You should step forward to become a trustee. The Commission, charities and professional bodies supporting Trustees’ Week are ready to help you equip yourself to be the best trustee you can be.”

Governance & Leadership magazine, the charity sector’s only dedicated magazine for trustees, is the media partner of Trustees’ Week. To distribute titles of the magazine at your charity event, please contact [email protected] by 15 October.
