Discount retailer TK Maxx has turned its annual clothing collection fundraiser into a year long event which aims to raise £2.5m for Cancer Research UK.

‘Give Up Clothes for Good’ has been running for ten years and has raised some £13.5m for the cancer charity over that time, but this month TK Maxx has pledged to make the clothing drop off scheme available all year round. Donation boxes will be open in 270 TK Maxx stores around the country.

The partnership aims for the money to be directed to childhood cancers, and clothes donated will be sold at Cancer Research shops around the country. The majority of the money raised by the retailer over the partnership has been allocated to childhood cancer.

TK Maxx is the largest corporate donor to Cancer Research UK. Alongside Give Up Clothes for Good, the retailer also sponsors the Little Star Awards which celebrates the lives of children with cancer.

According to the produced by Charity Finance and Fundraising Magazine, Cancer Research is the third largest charity retailer in the UK. Last year, charity retailers identified competition for quality stock as one of the biggest challenges facing the sector.
