A number of prominent musicians including Coldplay and Embrace have pledged exclusive tracks for a compilation album aimed at raising awareness and funds for tinnitus sufferers.

Coldplay is the latest group to pledge a track, joining the Black Eyed Peas, DJ Fresh, Embrace, Enter Shikari and many others, all of whom have at least one band member suffering from the condition.

The 'I am the one in ten' album, the brainchild of British Tinnitus Association ambassador and DJ Eddie Temple-Morris, will be produced, compiled and marketed exclusively by those suffering from tinnitus, which affects 1 in 10 people in the UK.

Support for the album gains momentum ahead of Tinnitus Awareness Week  from 4 - 10 February.

"I’m so happy that Chris Martin has given this his blessing, with Coldplay on board, at last we have a real chance to get through to government now…this album could be a game-changer," said Temple-Morris.

"We need to get through to the government that it's not just musicians and soldiers that get tinnitus, it’s every layer of society, and we want to reflect this by putting together a compilation album where every single person involved has tinnitus. If we can open the government’s eyes to this, then we’ll have a fighting chance of support in awareness, maybe even a ‘Charly Says’ public information film, and a much better chance of funding towards finding a cure," the charity advised.

While artists have come in droves (see list below) to offer their support to the album, one stumbling block remains. Temple-Morris is yet to secure a record label to get involved, with a strict requirement that the boss, or contact at the company has tinnitus. A spokesperson for the charity told civilsociety.co.uk however that the DJ is currently in discussions with relevant figures and hopes to firm a commitment soon.
