The Big Society Network appoints new CEO

The Big Society Network has announced the appointment of Steve Moore as its new chief executive and also launched two new programmes to support social entrepreneurs.

Moore was one of the founders of the Network and said: “I am proud to take on the leadership of the Big Society Network.

“The social, economic and cultural changes that are taking place all around us create extraordinary new opportunities for people to come together to give their time and resources.”

New programmes

The Big Society Network also announced two new programmes focussing on the use of internet and mobile technologies.

Nexters was developed with Deloitte, Nesta, UnLtd and the Bulldog Trust to provide finance, mentoring and business development support to high impact sustainable businesses.

To start with they have identified 20 Nexters who are developing new ways for people to give time, expertise or money and to engage with civil society and are using web and mobile technology to do so.

In partnership with Nominet Trust and Nesta the Network is to launch a new research and development programme, Spring.

It aims to become a national centre for thought leadership and support the entrepreneurs and innovators working on new ways to encourage people to give to charities using internet and mobile technologies.
