Sue Ryder has secured a three-year charity partnership with Morrisons, as the supermarket chain announced that its current tie-in with Save the Children has raised £7m.

Sue Ryder has secured a three-year charity partnership with Morrisons, as the supermarket chain announced that its current tie-in with Save the Children has raised £7m. 

The three-year partnership between Save the Children and Morrisons, which comes to an end this Sunday, has been the charity’s biggest and most successful to date.

Launched in April 2011, the partnership was extended from a charity of the year to run for a total of three years. Morrisons’ colleagues and customers raised funds in a whole host of ways – from bake sales and fitness challenges, to bucket collections and product donations – it raised £7m in total.

One of the most successful colleague initiatives was the support shown for Save the Children’s annual Christmas Jumper Day.  All Morrisons employees were encouraged to ‘make the world better with a sweater’ by wearing their Christmas jumpers and raised £175,000 in the process.

Save the Children CEO, Justin Forsyth, said: “The support from Morrisons has enabled us to completely transform the scale of our UK work. This partnership has not only helped thousands of the UK’s poorest children, but has also contributed to our global emergency response work.  It will leave a lasting legacy in the UK and internationally for many years to come."

A Morrisons’ spokesman confirmed to civilsociety.co.uk today that its next charity partnership will be with Sue Ryder, which will start next Monday. It is expected to be another three-year deal.
