Sue Ryder’s income has grown by £6.4m, mainly down to an increase in retail income of £6.2m, according to its recently published accounts.
Total income at the hospice and palliative care charity was £90.3m for the financial year ending 31 March 2014, up from £83.9m the previous year.
Income from shops rose from £41.9m in 2013 to £48.1m in 2014, however the cost of generating income from shops rose from £36.4m to £42.7m. The charity opened 26 new shops including seven appeal shops to raise money to build a new hospice in Peterborough. It has more than 400 shops in total.
Sue Ryder has seen its income rise steadily over the last four years; in 2010 reported an income of £76.2m.
Expenditure in 2014 came to £90m, with £41.6m spent on charitable activities and £47.9m on generating income.
One member of staff was paid up to £140,000, and one member of staff up to £130,000. The previous year the highest paid member of staff earned up to £120,000. In 2013/14 25 members of staff earned more than £60,000, up from 16 the previous year.
