JustGiving has declared Sir Ranulph Fiennes as the UK’s top celebrity fundraiser.

JustGiving has declared Sir Ranulph Fiennes as the UK’s top celebrity fundraiser.

Sir Ranulph, who was once described as “the world’s greatest living explorer”, has risen over £2.5m for Marie Curie Cancer Care in the last two years – more than any other celebrity fundraiser.

Over his lifetime, Sir Ranulph has travelled all over the world raising money, including to the South Pole where he led an expedition. In 2003 he completed seven marathons in seven continents in seven days – despite suffering a heart attack and undergoing a double heart bypass operation. In 2004 his first wife Ginny died of cancer.

Sir Ranulph was followed in second place by star of Dragon’s Den, Peter Jones, who raised £100,000 for the Sport Relief Million Pound Bike Ride.

Other celebrities in JustGiving’s top 10 include Joanna Lumley, who raised £17,000 for the Gurkha Welfare Trust and Oxfam, and Jenson Button, who raised nearly £20,000 for the Make-a-Wish Foundation UK.
