A campaign against the use of drones in Pakistan, the regeneration of a huge landfill site into a nature reserve, and a top-performing academy schools network are among 30 inspiring projects shortlisted in this year’s Charity Awards.

A campaign against the use of drones in Pakistan, the regeneration of a huge landfill site into a nature reserve, and a top-performing academy schools network are among 30 inspiring projects shortlisted in this year’s Charity Awards.

All 30 projects have scored highly against the ten hallmarks of excellence, as decided by the 11-strong judging panel of voluntary sector experts across a variety of fields.

The Charity Awards, the most prestigious awards programme in the voluntary sector, is now in its 14th year.

Organiser Daniel Phelan said the quality of this year’s cohort of shortlisted projects is as high as it’s ever been.

“All the shortlisted charities have demonstrated exceptional performance against as many of the ten hallmarks of excellence as possible,” Phelan said.  “I wish them all the best of luck on the night."

The winners will be announced at a gala dinner at the Grosvenor House Hotel on the night of Thursday 13 June, hosted by comedienne Sally Phillips. One charity will be crowned Overall Winner and an individual from the sector will be honoured with an award for Outstanding Achievement in the sector.

This year’s judges include the chief executive of the Charities Aid Foundation Dr John Low; Danielle Walker Palmour, director of the Friends Provident Foundation, and Sir Christopher Kelly, chair of the King's Fund. The judging panel is chaired by Charity Finance editor Andrew Hind.

Last year’s Overall Winner was the Halo Trust, for its project clearing landmines in Sri Lanka.
