The website created to receive donations in celebration of the Royal Wedding has raised nearly £1m for a number of charities.

Donations came in from around the globe to the www.royalweddingcharityfund.org for the wedding of the now-Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Catherine Middleton, last month.

Well-wishers were able to donate via the site, submit their donations by cheque or text to donate to the fund, which supported a number of charities from soldiers’ organisations to children’s charities and the New Zealand earthquake appeal.

Nick Booth, chief executive of the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry said:  “The charitable gift fund created by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge has the opportunity to make a lasting difference to a number of important causes chosen personally by the couple.”

The site was developed for the fund for free by GGMR which donated its services for free. BT also provided web-hosting and donation processing for free.
