The Royal Mail Group is aiming to raise at least £2m over the next two years for its new charity partner the Stroke Association.

In what is the charity’s largest-ever corporate partnership, the Stroke Association won a staff vote ahead of Age UK and Diabetes UK.

Money raised by Royal Mail employees’ fundraising efforts will be matched by the Royal Mail up to £1m.  The partnership will fund Life After Stroke grants of up to £300 to support 10,000 stroke survivors.

The partnership also aims to raise awareness of the condition and the steps people can take to reduce their chance of a stroke.

Jon Barrick, chief executive of the Stroke Association, said: “Stroke is the killer disease that’s been ignored for too long. Through the incredible generosity of individuals and staff at the Royal Mail, we can do even more to help transform the lives of people with this devastating condition.”

Moya Greene, Royal Mail’s chief executive, said: “Our colleagues voted to support this important charity and we look forward to working closely together over the next two years.

“We will work very hard so that our support can make a real different to the Stroke Association’s work and overall aim to conquer stroke.”

Royal Mail’s previous charity of the year partner was Prostate Cancer UK, which raised £2.3m for the charity.

Greene added: “We hope this will act as a lasting legacy for the charity.”
