The RNID has rebranded to Action on Hearing Loss to mark its centenary and launched a new campaign to encourage people to get their hearing checked.

Last summer the charity said it was considering a rebrand and the new name was announced in October.

Chief executive Jackie Ballard said: “Action on Hearing Loss better describes all our work for people with all types of hearing loss, and reflects our urgency in trying to reach the four million people in the UK who should be benefiting from hearing aids but haven’t yet taken action on their hearing loss.”

People can now take a hearing check on the charity’s website to find out if they may be suffering from hearing loss and has attracted the support of BT and former MP Ann Widdecombe.

Widdecombe said: “Don’t bury your head in the sand. It’s better to take action now, as there is support available.”

World Emergency Relief becomes Emerge Poverty Free

Meanwhile International development charity World Emergency Relief has changed its name to Emerge Poverty Free to reflect the charity’s role in sustainable development.

CEO Alex Haxton said: “World Emergency Relief just did not adequately describe the organisation that WER has become so the need for change was really clear.”

The charity was set up in 1995 to help people affected by natural disasters. Its focus has been shifting towards long-term work to alleviate poverty.

Instead of holding a launch event the team will be handing out information and collecting donations at London Underground stations.
