A Catholic adoption charity which demanded a review of the decision by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) that the charity did not provide public benefit, has once again failed the charity test.
OSCR published its original inquiry results into St Margaret's Children and Family Care Society in January, deeming the charity directly discriminatory against same-sex couples in its 'preferred criteria' for prospective parents, which included being Catholic and being married for at least two years.
At the bequest of the charity, OSCR undertook a review of its decision on Monday (4 March) but has found again that the charity "does not provide public benefit because the way it provides benefit involves unlawful discrimination, which causes detriment to the public and to particular groups of people".
The charity now faces removal from the Scottish charity register if it does not amend external and internal guidance and procedures to satisfy the charity test by 22 April.
