Sir Stephen Bubb is the subject of a humorous article in the latest issue of Private Eye magazine, in which he is described as “a world champion bore”.

Sir Stephen Bubb is the subject of a humorous article in Private Eye magazine, in which he is described as “a world champion bore”.

The half-page article takes excerpts from Bubb’s Blog, drawing attention to the Acevo chief executive's pride at his close relations with government ministers and mocking his enthusiasm for radio appearances.

The article describes him as “a fixture in parts of Whitehall” and says his blog is “marvellously self-important”. It also imaginatively states that he “claps his hands together in incessant delight like Ronnie Corbett”.

Writing about the article in his blog, Sir Stephen said he had been alerted to it by Conservative MP Harriett Baldwin, his vice-chair at the Social Investment Bank.

She reportedly texted him: “You have achieved life's highest honour - almost a page in Private Eye! All looks good to me."

Sir Stephen adds that the article is “a piss take of course”, but also “an achievement of sorts”.

Civilsociety.co.uk’s in-house media reviewer said: “In places the piece demonstrates the ability of the satirist to draw humour from seemingly innocuous comments, while in others serves to remind regular readers of Bubb’s Blog of just how inured they may have become to Sir Stephen’s unique approach.

“Perhaps the only surprise is that it has taken Private Eye so long to come across this effervescent champion of the charity sector.”
