Polluting businesses have been forced to pay a combined £168,000 to a local wildlife charity after enforcement action from the Environment Agency (EA).
Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust secured the money from five companies found liable for water and waste offences which occured in the county.
The highest payout of £60,000 came from Nottinghamshire firm Bowring Transport, which deposited construction waste without authorisation, while Lincolnshire contractors Fox (Owmby) handed over £40,000.
Meanwhile, Crockway Farms in Dorset paid out £30,000 following a pig slurry discharge, while £26,000 came from Construction & Environmental Services in Cambridgeshire.
Earthborn Transport in West Bridgford near Nottingham city centre paid the remaining £12,000.
Paul Learoyd, Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust chief executive, said: “The best outcome for wildlife, people and our environment is always prevention, supported by strong regulation and responsible environmental management.
“Where enforcement action does secure investment, it is important that those funds are invested directly into nature recovery across Lincolnshire.
“This contribution will help us deliver practical conservation work.”
Besides the payments to the charity, all firms made contributions to the EA’s costs, the executive non-departmental government body added.
Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust recorded a total income of £8.92m in the year to March 2025 and spent £7.02m overall, including £1.57m on its nature reserves.
The EA recently reported that several other wildlife trusts across the country had received millions in enforcement undertakings from water companies over the past two years.
