Paypal will donate 19p for every £1 donated to Oxfam through Paypal in September to cover the admin costs in a repeat of a campaign run earlier this year.

Paypal will donate 19p for every £1 donated to Oxfam through Paypal in September to cover the admin costs of the donation in a repeat of a campaign run earlier this year.

The 100 per cent giving scheme is intended to attract people who are discouraged from donating by the perceived running costs, but the charity simultaneously said that admin costs were necessary to the running of the charity.

Paul Vanags, Oxfam’s head of innovation, said: “Administration costs are essential to enable us to work in more than 70 countries. But we do appreciate that for a few people, they can sometimes be a barrier to giving to charity.

“By teaming up with Paypal for 100 per cent giving, we’re giving everyone the opportunity to make their money go further, with every penny of their donation going directly to the cause.”

Normally for every £1 donated, 81p goes directly to programme work and 19p is spent on essential running costs, including training staff how to work in extreme conditions and delivering aid in emergency situations.

Oxfam and Paypal launched the scheme last February and details of how much has been raised in both February and September will be revealed once it has finished.

Separately, the charity also revealed that English donors had donated £100m in one year with Oxfordshire people topping the league table by contributing £16m.
