The Disasters Emergency Committee’s Pakistan flood appeal has raised £60.8m, making it one of the organisation’s three most successful fundraising appeals.
The DEC announced today that the Pakistani flood appeal has raised just over £100,000 more than its appeal for the 2005 earthquake in Pakistan, making it the third largest appeal in DEC history, behind the Haiti earthquake and 2004 tsunami.
But, the organisation stressed that the emergency has not ended and many Pakistanis are still in desperate need due to the scale of the disaster, the Pakistan government’s limitations and what it called the “comparatively slow response from parts of the international community”.
DEC chief executive Brendan Gormley said: “The response of the UK public to the flooding in Pakistan has been extraordinary. We are hugely grateful to everyone who has shown their support. Donors to the DEC can be proud of the work they are helping to fund.
