Around 600 young people who took part in the government’s National Citizen Service six-week programme this year, will tonight attend a graduation party hosted by volunteering charity Orange RockCorps at the O2 Islington Academy.
More than 8,000 participants across England completed National Citizen Service (NCS) this summer, the 600 NCS graduates attending tonight’s concert party were chosen by the 12 charity delivery partners on the NCS programme.
An Office for Civil Society spokeswoman said: "Each NCS provider was offered a number of places for the event, most of these were allocated to NCS participants on a first come first served basis."
TV personality Alex Zane will host the event, and seven acts are lined up to perform.
Stephen Greene, CEO of RockCorps said:
“When we were asked to produce a celebration party for NCS, the answer was an easy yes. Getting youth engaged in the community is core to our DNA. So, we are happy to lend a hand. I had the opportunity this summer to visit several of the projects sites for NCS. The project works. There are so many great youth projects going across the country and now, in addition, there are many great non-profit providers who are executing NCS and we commend them all.”
The Orange RockCorps programme, a partnership between Orange and RockCorps, inspires young people to volunteer within their local community for four hours in exchange for a ticket to a pop concert.
