Bill Turnbull returns £5k NHS awards night fee after charity concerns

Veteran BBC Breakfast presenter Bill Turnbull (pictured) has paid back more than £5,000 he earned for hosting an awards evening for an NHS Trust, after it emerged that charitable donations had paid for almost half of the event.

The event, for the Pennine actus hospitals NHS trust staff awards and signed off by the Greater Manchester trust’s charitable funds committee, is now being investigated by the Charity Commission.

Daily Mail claim Sainsbury’s ‘lags behind its rivals’ on charity plastic bag levy

The Daily Mail has accused supermarket retailer Sainsbury’s of lagging behind its rivals by giving “just 1p per carrier bag” to charity and says it refuses to reveal exactly how much it donates from the levy to the sector.
