Peter Wheeler has been named as chair of New Philanthropy Capital’s board of trustees.

Wheeler (pictured) will follow in the footsteps of David Robins who stepped down after seven years in the role.

Wheeler is also head of wholesale banking, west, at the Standard Chartered Bank and founder of the Charity Technology Trust.

Other changes to the board include the appointment of Peter Smitham as a new trustee.

Smitham is currently on the board of Atlantic Philanthropies and Marie Stopes International as well as chairman of the private equity firm Actis since 2005.

"I have had experience of NPC personally as a client and have been very impressed with the work it has done," said Smitham. "I look forward to helping NPC as it works towards this goal."

NPC has also announced the departure of the long-serving trustee and co-founder Gavyn Davies.

Davies leaves NPC after eight years on the board, leaving the think tank with eight remaining trustees.
