Four new bloggers will be joining the Civil Society stable following our competition to find new and interesting voices in the sector.

While the competition had originally planned to find two bloggers for the entire Civil Society site, the number and quality of entrants means that two were selected to focus on fundraising, and two selected to blog mainly on finance and governance.

The new fundraising bloggers have a distinctly international air. New Zealander Garreth Spillane is one of the competition winners. Now London-based, Spillane is working at the Foundation for Social Improvement, but has a background across a range of marketing and communications roles and organisations. Spillane already contributes to opera and wine blogs - but far from high brow, his first blog for Civil Society is on rock’n’roll.

And we have Switzerland-based Tom Eeles, who says his will be a “magpie blog”, picking up on inspiration and innovation where he finds it. The consultant won Fundraising’s heart with his first blog about chocolate – or, in actual fact about how charities can capitalise on mistaken identity - and will be providing something of an international perspective on the world of fundraising.

Meanwhile, we’ve found a chief executive and consultant who will focus mainly on finance and governance.

Former chief executive James Thompson will bring a touch of what he describes as ‘Old School meets Grumpy Old Man’ scepticism to the site. His inaugural blog addresses the debate on progressive governance.

And David Davison, a consultant from Spence & Partners, with over 20 years experience in the pensions sector, will examine the looming issue of charity pension scheme deficits.
