Nesta has issued a new call for game-changing ideas to boost philanthropy that might be funded by the £10m Innovation in Giving Fund.
The new call is effectively a reopening of the first round of the Cabinet Office fund, to seek more new ideas to boost giving. In the first round, £2.45m was shared among 32 projects in February and March.
A Nesta spokesman told civilsociety.co.uk that while 440 applications were received in the first round, Nesta had also been inundated with emails from potential applicants that had missed the deadline. So it wanted to open up the fund again to ensure that those that missed out, are given a chance.
This second tranche of funding will support 20 projects with grants of up to £50,000 each, he said. The successful innovationswill have the potential to have "national impact at a significant scale - engaging people in the hundreds of thousands over time".
The dealine for applications is 15 June. Applicants must submit a short video application in the first instance. Click here to see criteria and the application form.
Recipients of the first round included Guess2Give (pictured), a sweepstake platform for runners of charity marathons or other timed events; Do-it Connect, a UK volunteer database; and Greeniversity, which teaches people ‘green skills’.
Second round
Nesta also announced the second round of the fund a month ago, explaining that it would be different from the first round in that it would focus on inspiring innovation in established charities.
In the second round, ten or so medium to large-sized charities will be selected to share £1.5m and will be supported by Nesta to turn their ideas into action. The spokesman said the organisation was already working with a number of larger charities helping them to flesh out their ideas.
