Voluntary sector organisations and social enterprises will deliver more than two thirds of National Citizen Service contracts between 2015 and 2018, the NCS Trust has announced.
The trust, the body responsible for administering the NCS, has announced that ten organisations, including seven charities and social enterprises, will deliver its services in 19 regions in England from 2015-2018.
The NCS delivers government-funded three week summer courses for 16 and 17 year olds, plus 30 hours dedicated to a social action project. It also provides shorter courses during the spring and autumn. It will aim to provide 60,000 places this year, and 90,000 in 2015.
National charity the Challenge Network won prime contracts to deliver NCS services in seven of the 19 regions. It is currently delivering five prime contracts.
Another six charities and social enterprises each won contracts to deliver services in one region.
Doug Fraley, director of operations at the NCS Trust, said: “Following a rigorous bidding process, we are pleased to announce the selection of the ten successful organisations, all of whom submitted excellent applications, not only from a cost and quality perspective, but also from a position of experience and passion."
Last month, the NCS Trust announced the names of 17 organisations who joined its Regional Service Providers framework and who went on to bid for delivery of the programme.
The ten successful organisations includes four who were previously local delivery partners, and adds one new organisation, Ingeus, which will cover three regions. Currently 220 organisations work to deliver NCS at a local level.
