Music charity Rhythmix is seeking legal counsel as a new girl band competing on ITV reality music TV show The X Factor is using the same name.
In a statement released this week, a Rhythmix spokesperson said it had no made no agreement with The X Factor or the band for usage of its trademarked name and was currently in discussion with legal representation to resolve the matter.
However, a spokesperson for The X Factor said the charity had trademarked the name ‘Rhythmix’ for educational purposes only. Therefore it is not in conflict with the show or band, which was created and named by The X Factor team, and is set to compete on live shows over the coming weeks.
The charity Rhythmix has been running since 1999, and has worked with over 45,000 people to develop their personal and social skills through music.
