Michael Dent is leaving Macmillan Cancer Support to join Alzheimer’s Society as its director of fundraising.

Dent (pictured) who has been Macmillan’s director of mass market fundraising since September 2011, takes up his post at Alzheimer’s Society today. He is taking over the role from former director of fundraising Jon Bodenham.

Dent was “responsible for substantially increasing the profile and income of Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning and introduced a range of new product launches including Sober October, Brave the Shave and Good Night In”.

Jeremy Hughes, chief executive of Alzheimer's Society, said: “We are delighted to welcome Michael to our charity and I am certain he has the energy and entrepreneurial flair which will be vital to spearhead the work of our award-winning fundraising team as we seek to tackle society’s biggest health and social care challenge.”

Dent said: “I am delighted to be joining the Alzheimer’s Society at such an exciting time and, as someone who has been personally affected by dementia, I have a huge passion for the cause and the great services the charity provides.”

Dent has previously held roles as head of direct marketing and sales at Macmillan, and with the Royal Voluntary Service.

He will oversee all fundraising and commercial activities at the award-winning charity, leading the organisation towards its long-term funding aspirations.

A spokesman for Alzheimer’s Society did not know what Bodenham’s next step will be.
