Marie Curie Cancer Care has revealed that Dr Jane Collins will become its new chief executive later this year.
She is currently chief executive of Great Ormond Street Hospital and will take over from Thomas Hughes-Hallett on 1 September.
Hughes-Hallett announced his intention to retire this year in January, having held the position for 11 years.
Chairman of the trustees at Marie Curie, John Varley, said of Dr Collins: “She brings with her a deep understanding of the NHS, the commissioning landscape and the work of academic and research insitutions.”
Dr Collins has been chief executive at GOSH for more than 10 years where the role combines being CEO of the hospital and the charity. During her time at the helm its turnover has grown from £132m in 2000/01 to £336m in 2010/11. She began working at the hospital in 1994, and before becoming chief executive held a trust board role as director of clinical services and also serviced on the management board of the hospital. She will leave GOSH in August and the foundation trust is currently recruiting for her successor.
Dr Collins trained as a paediatric neurologist and was previously a consultant at Guy’s Hospital London.
